As the week comes to an end, I wanted to mention a few things that were not mentioned for the past two weeks about the NWT and the town and city that we visited.
First of all the beauty of the NWT makes me very proud to be Canadian, and that living in this country is an honor and privilege. In our day to day bullshit called living we often are too busy fighting those that continue to bring us down. We are often too busy trying to keep our heads above water at getting er done.
I am reminded each time that I go to the NWT, what amazing people they are, we are as Canadians. I am reminded that beauty comes in many different sizes, colors, and places.
This recent trip reinforced all of that for me. The wonderful people of Fort Smith and how they reminded me of a community coming together. How their beautiful little town is simplistic, yet way beyond the big city in so many ways.
With that I would like to thank someone, who I refer to as my niece, she’s not really, but that’s ok. It feels like I’m her uncle. She lent me her vehicle on a couple of occasions to make it easier to get things done for the charity. I got to meet her new boyfriend, albeit briefly and not much conversation time…well ok, none.
I love everything this young woman has done. No, she has not done it alone, she has had a community around her. She, for me though, is a testament in all that is possible. I know that she will continue to make great choices, and that she will continue to follow her dreams and that her new boyfriend will encourage her to continue to do so. Especially if he truly loves her.
K.H. I think you are amazing and thank you, for helping out. Please remember that you did so much on your own. People that come into your life friends, boyfriends etc should only enhance and support.
Fort Smith only has two or three eateries, and one of them is Berro’s Pizzeria. The pizza here is to die for. Now a little more pricey compared to the 3 for 1 large for 28.99 that we are used to, but oh so much better.
On the day we stopped here, I had a clubhouse, with real turkey…. Who knew that it still existed. The soup that came with was also not from a can.. it too was so so good.
Darrell ordered a ham, mushroom, and pineapple with fresh tomato ( this from a man who does not eat tomato), I know right? Twisted if you ask me. But he is ODD so I accept that cause I am odd too.
He, Darrell says this is the best pizza he’s ever had. Now let me say this, again he’s not the easiest man to please, so for him to pass out compliments out like this is rare.
Run by a family, you must eat here. You must try this if in Fort Smith.
Lastly a quick note…….. some of the best special fried rice..ever.. brought me back to my childhood at the New Way Café and Peters fried rice. We found said dish at the local hotel, in the café At Pelican Rapids Inn.
I’ll say it one last time this week I LOVE NWT and the people .. YOU Have to go!!!
